"Fly of the Month"

Catau's Michigan
Hopper
Hook: #9672 Mustad or Equivalent
Size: #6-12
Tail: Short red duck quill, calf tail or floss cut to size
Body: Medium-yellow, green, or brown yarn
Wing: Clump of medium-brown deer hair tied trude over body
Hackle: Medium dark-brown, dry fly Saddle Hackle 1 (good quality)
Head: Black or yellow flat monochord
Steps for Tying:
1. Tie in a short red tail (tag) of either duck quills, calf tail or floss
cut to size.
2. Tie in a medium brown long saddle hackle.
3. Tie in a medium-yellow, green or brown yarn in front of tag and wrap
forward to
where a clump of brown deer hair will be tied in trude
over body. Secure chenille.
4. Wrap brown hackle (Palmer style to where body ends) secure.
5. Tie in clump of brown hair, butts first, trude over body to where it
extends just
beyond bend of hook. Leave a clump forward toward
eye.
6. Wrap thread to make head and finish off with either half hitches or
whip finish.
7. Apply head cement to head.
